IMPACT

Fifty million people are living with dementia — and there are nearly 10 million new cases each year, according to the World Health Organization. There are currently no medications that cure Alzheimer’s disease or stop it from progressing. By delaying the onset of dementia by five years, we can reduce its prevalence by 30 per cent. Delaying onset by 10 years would virtually eradicate dementia.

By participating in Barrie 2 Baycrest, you'll be raising vital funds for exercise programs at Stan’s Gym and the new Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness. This unique Centre will be the first of its kind in Canada.

The Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness will be a shining example of what is possible in the realm of brain health and aging. It will focus on three areas:

  • Community Wellness Programming
  • Specialized Wellness Clinics
  • Integrated Research to Prevent and Treat Cognitive Decline

The Centre will seamlessly integrate brain health, physical fitness, nutrition and social engagement for older adults.
